3 fitness myths that are absolutely not true ⁣
⁣
When you begin your fitness journey, you hear ALL sorts of interesting/seemingly helpful tidbits from friends, family, social media. Many of them hold some water but many simply NOT true. Here are the three that bug me the MOST and that absolutely need to be myth busted!⁣
⁣
1.  Carbs are bad for you OR eating less carbs is better for me.
Not only are carbohydrates not BAD for you, they’re an important part of any diet! It’s almost impossible to eliminate them, especially because they come in several forms: sugar, starch, and fiber. Starch and fiber are found in many vegetables “healthy” foods and grains. Some evidence shows that fiber may reduce the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. The key here is to remember that excess glucose, a byproduct of carbs, can be converted to fat if it isn’t used. How do you know if you’re consuming the right amount of carbs? DM me and we can talk about your body’s macros and what’s right for you!

2.  Muscle turns to fat if you stop working out.
This simply isn’t true! Muscle and fat are made of completely different cellular structures that do not convert between one another. You also cannot turn fat into muscle. You can build muscle mass AND burn fat through resistance exercise, but if you decide to take a break due to injury or any other reason, your muscle will not turn to fat. Muscle fiber can, however, begin to break down after only a week without exercise.

3. ‍️You have to spend an hour or more in the gym to really get results.
You do not have to spend hours at the gym every day to get results. Let me repeat that, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND HOURS AT THE GYM TO GET RESULTS. The best results I’ve ever gotten were 4 - 5 days per week and only 20 minutes per day. The key to results is CONSISTENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND DIET.⁣

Sen gör det inte saken värre att det bara är 98 dagar till julafton 54 dagar till en äventyrlig semester ️ och 12 dagar tills @camillavictoriaj gör sin SM-debut! ️ Dags att skicka i nästa växel!!

We’re very happy to announce Alex Pownall as our new Head Coach here at PKGen London!

Alex has been a constant presence in the parkour world since he first started training at our London classes back in 2006, since which time he has been relentless in his training and development to become one of the most capable and complete parkour practitioners in the world.

Alex began assistant coaching with PKGen in 2009 and simply never looked back. He has since become a regular force across our UK operations, becoming a Senior Coach a few years ago and going on to teach at international workshops and events, including several of the prestigious Rendezvous Parkour Gatherings in the UK and USA. His commitment to personal excellence and constant self-improvement is clear to all,  but even more important is the care and attention he gives to every person on their own path of practise.

We couldn’t be happier to see Alex take on the role of Head Coach, responsible for guiding the development of newer coaches and providing direction, focus and a great role model for everyone who teaches or trains in the London Academy Classes.

We know you’ll want to join us in saying a huge CONGRATS to Alex!

Client of the Month: KYLE 
Kyle is a student at SBCC with aspirations of starting his own sports performance training facility for individuals with special needs. Last month, Kyle took his first big step toward this goal: he passed the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer exam! A national power soccer player, Kyle has played in tournaments around the country. He's also coached athletes in our area at Cottage Rehab Hospital's annual Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp at UCSB. Kyle was selected as Client of the Month for his fearless spirit, his boundless determination, and his superior work ethic. You will never catch Kyle giving less than 110% - in workouts, in school, or in life.

Yesterday someone asked me if I was ready for it to be show day already... and honestly as much as i say I’m so excited for it to be here, eat treats and carbs and that I’m ready to showcase all my hard work. The answer is no. ⠀⠀
It’s not no because I don’t feel ready. It’s no because I love this process. No matter how hard it is, and depleted I feel at the moment (currently being at lower carbs) I still wouldn’t change it. I love cutting myself open and seeing what I’m made of, I love discovering the strength inside, I love discovering what motivates me on an internal level.

Yesterday someone asked me if I was ready for it to be show day already... and honestly as much as i say I’m so excited for it to be here, eat treats and carbs and that I’m ready to showcase all my hard work. The answer is no. ⠀⠀ It’s not no because

FULL BODY FARM BOOTCAMP | We live on a 35-acre farm and I always wonder why I never take advantage of it for workouts  Well, today I did! I started with a 1.5 mile “trail run” down our gravel driveway (1 minute of sprints followed by a minute of fast walking the whole time). Then I did 1 minute on/1 minute off of the following: jumping jacks, wall sits on our hay bails, push ups in the trailer, scissor kicks in the pasture, glute bridges with a bag of soil, and box squats on a trough 🤣 If you think you have to go to a gym to sweat hardcore, I’m here to tell you that YOU  DO  NOT because I am a hot mess right now!

Feeling Healthy  and Strong  Mentally, Emotionally, Spiritually - THAT’S where we sometimes fall short, areas we neglect in our lives, or we forget just how important they are!

4 years ago I got introduced by one of my mentors to this audio book called The 10X rule by @grantcardone And ever since I listened to that audiobook my life has never been the same.

I realized that in order to succeed in life and reach the levels of success that I expected for myself I had to work 10X harder than my competition, 10X harder than I ever thought possible. I’ve learned to expected nothing but maximum effort in everything I do in my life.

Once we realized that average levels of effort will only get you average results at that exact moment is when you need to dig down inside of you and find that hunger, that drive that will push you past all of your previous excuses and become the person you have to be in order to live the life that you deserve.

Set GOALS so big that they will scared small minded individuals. Let them call you crazy because that’s exactly how you should be when it comes to your goals. Whatever you want and expect out of life go BIGGER than you ever thought possible.

Be relentless and always trust yourself because with self believe anything in life is possible. I knew I would put myself in this position years ago because I believe in myself but the best thing about it all. Is that it’s just the beginning of the final journey!

Two weeks ago, you may remember we set ourselves a task, in collaboration with the team at @optimumnutrition_uk we asked our incredibly busy team to take on the Optimum Nutrition for Health & Perforamce Course to upskill and refresh our knowledge and possible assumptions about nutrition within the scope of our practice. ⁣⁣

I am proud to share, that despite being an incredibly hectic time for us all, delivering lots of coaching hours across 3 gyms, that the majority of the team managed to complete it, including the head honchos.⁣⁣

The course delivers 10 modules of online lectures delivered by @fuelandperform and @emiliathompsonphd and it addresses some of the most common nutrition queries, myths and diet fads currently circulating in the industry.
