A wealthy trader was once trying to take advantage of a poor mystic when the mystic said, “You bargain so stringently with a man that is so poor, be careful wealthy merchant for perhaps my rich God will bargain with the blessings that He gives to you.” The merchant arrogantly laughed at the poor mystics remark and set off across the desert back home to Syria. Along the path robbers robbed the merchant of all the money he made on his trading trip. But the merchant being such a wealthy man figured he was lucky to walk away with his life and kept himself motivated by the fact that he would soon enough reach Syria to his palace of comfort and wealth. However, in the desert the merchant got separated from his caravan and got lost in a sandstorm. As the days passed his supply of food finally ran out and he had no food or water. As the merchant began to hallucinate from severe dehydration, approaching the brink of death an angel of God appeared to him and said, “Oh wealthy trader how much of your wealth will you give to purchase a single cup of water?” The desperate trader replied, “Oh! I would give half of all that I own for a single cup of water!” So the angel said, “Very well here is a cup of water.” So the merchant drank the water and continued on his path back home. But then before he reached the city limits he started to feel immense pain as he could not urinate and he felt like his bladder was about to explode. The angel of God returned again and said, “Oh wealthy merchant, how much would you offer to allow the water to pass through your bladder?” The merchant screamed with pain, “I would give the other half of my wealth!” And this is when the angel said, “Oh poor merchant, you saw yourself as wealthy because of the wealth you acquired, but you are willing to give your entire palace of wealth for a single cup of water that you are then able to urinate. You spent your entire wealth to purchase something that God gives you every single day for free. You thought you were wealthy because you had money, but true wealth is not in the material wealth you acquired but in the blessings that Allah freely gives to all of us. #quraansayingspost
