I'm tired. Still or again, I'm not even sure. I think this focussing on my (mental) health and self care and rest is like finally sitting down after running around all day. I knew I was tired, but I had no idea how tired exactly until I sat down. That's good though, it means I was very neccessary and I can recharge before (and during) the first few weeks of my new job.

Astma door lactoseintolerantie?

Bijna 3 jaar geleden stond ik op deze plek in Oeganda. Misschien wel de allermooiste reis van mijn leven! Alleen door een val in de eerste week, ook het begin van een lange reis naar herstel.

Met een goede sportdiëtist kwam ik er tijdens dat herstel (o.a.) achter dat ik te weinig eiwitten binnen kreeg: een noodzakelijke bouwstof! Een logische oplossing was het verhogen van de inname van zuivel - ook wel “hoogwaardige eiwitten” genoemd. Het voedingsplan bleek, samen met een waanzinnige fysio, mijn redding. Het herstel verliep daarna voorspoedig!

Totdat ik 1,5 jaar geleden tijdens een optreden plotseling mijn stem kwijtraakte. Niet voor een avond, maar 2 maanden lang! Een route langs logopedisten en de KNO-arts volgde, maar een oorzaak werd in eerste instantie niet gevonden en een oplossing kwam er dus ook niet.

Na het horen van mijn akelige hoestje, verwees de KNO-arts me voor de zekerheid door naar een longarts. Nooit verwacht, maar daar volgde al snel uit onderzoek de diagnose “astma” en kon ik aan de medicijnen. Die zouden me er snel bovenop moeten helpen!

Maar ondanks die medicijnen werd ik benauwder en benauwder. Tot ik op het dieptepunt moeite kreeg met naar het station fietsen en met het welbekende sprintje naar de trein. Enigszins confronterend als je 3 a 4 keer per week traint  De astma medicatie werd vervolgens verder verhoogd.

Tot het moment dat ik een artikel las van een man die 20 jaar (!) astma medicatie had gebruikt, maar daarmee kon stoppen nadat hij lactose (wat in zuivelproducten zit) vermeed. Een bizar verhaal - maar realiseerde me dat het ook voor mij het proberen waard was.

Inmiddels zorg ik er 2 maanden voor dat ik de eiwitten op een andere manier binnenkrijg dan door zuivel. And guess what: adem als nooit tevoren, geen stemklachten meer, én inmiddels gestopt met de astma medicijnen. Ik ben natuurlijk super blij, maar ook stomverbaasd. Nooit gedacht dat dit de oplossing kon zijn!

Weten wat je binnenkrijgt en wat het met je lichaam doet blijkt wederom zó ontzettend belangrijk. Het leek me daarom goed om dit verhaal ook eens op te schrijven en te delen. Wie weet kan het nog meer mensen helpen!

I for one have a terrible habit of comparing my food intake from days prior to the food I’m eating in the moment. But, the fact is, each day is separate from the next and what you do/don’t consume shouldn’t be impacted on by past meals. The past is the past, leave it there. If you know you could make a more recovery-focussed decision today than you did yesterday, do it. .

Our brains are tricky, and comparison is there go-to guilt-inducing mechanism. And BOI are they good at it. But comparison is the theft of joy. You can’t truly be in the moment if your continually comparing to the past and/or future. .

I’ve had a fair few challenges these past 24hrs, which made having an adequate breakfast this morning difficult beyond belief. But I broke the cycle of anorexia: I didn’t allow my intake this morning to be hindered by my intake yesterday. .

I thought hard about whether I should post this pic or not! I decided to post it because not everyday is filled with rainbows and unicorns! The reality is not everyday is going to be a good one and that shit happens and you have to face up to it! The selfishness of alcoholism has kept me in the mindset that because I’m recovering, everyone should just move on with their lives blah blah! I’m just realising how selfish this actually really is and to be honest it makes me feel awful about myself! The devil that alcoholism is thrives on my self pity and try’s to convince me that this is all to hard and to just drink. I feel strong in the fact that I won’t drink today. I’m just struggling as the further I go into recovery the more emotions are brought up! I’ve had a good cry at my aa meeting today, I’ve spoken openly to my partner about how I’m feeling and now I’m putting it out on here! Tomorrow is a new day, it’s ok not to be ok all the time! Showing myself that it’s ok to be vulnerable and to share the not so good days may help someone else! Please know that you are never alone and to reach out to someone! It may be the thing that saves you!

Discovered coffee cola when I went for a walk on Friday (it’s actually Coke Zero, so I dunno why it’s in this can 🤷‍️) & it’s so nice!! 
Just stayed in the hotel on Friday.
Breakfast was the usual, then had two coffees in the morning, so I could use my mini bottle of Bailey’s..it was a cloudy day, so felt Bailey’s was needed. 
Had a cereal bar again & a banana  Fortisip  on the balcony at lunch time & then went on a walk where I discovered the cola. ️
They actually had a good cold pasta on the salad bar in the evening, so had prawn 🦐 pasta salad & also had mixed veg.
Went to bed  early that evening..because..virus. 🦠

A smiley Aimée because I am finally back in my happy place and slowly working on making myself stronger both physically and mentally.

The number one reason I got into strength training was because I wanted my physical strength to be a representation of my mental strength so while it’s been very necessary for me to take some time away from lifting weights, it does feel really nice to be back at it.

I’m still feeling a bit fragile right now and my days are up and down (I speak about this a lot and even show it in my latest YouTube video - link in bio) but I am working on my self belief & confidence because I know this is fundamental on my recovery.

Plus, it’s t-minus 2.5 weeks until my move to Brisbane so  Hope you’ve all had a great weekend!

Доброе утро!️ Вчера отлично с лп съездили в Москву,ходили в зоопарк,посетили блэк стар бургер,попробовали только один десерт и напиток на двоих,так как там такие порции ,что ничего не влезет,хотим ещё бургер как нибудь попробовать🤤Потом мы просто гуляли по Москве ,дошли до вокзала пешком ,где я попробовала очень вкусный борщ,и поехали домой,вернулись поздно,и я сразу легла спать.
Встала сегодня рано,где-то пол 10 ,и пошла варить кукурузу,буду позже пробовать.
Планов никаких нет,Погода на улице ужасная,идёт дождик ,везде грязь,поэтому скорее всего буду дома.

Since our last vacay we weren't sure if we would be able to go on an autumn vacay cause of my physical condition due to my illness
BUT I've just received the final okay from my doctor this week🥳
I'm allowed to go on a relaxed vacay
And now we've start planning...
It's still a huge struggle cause we've got just 1-2 weeks left to book a vacation (hotel/apartment!) and we're still not quite sure were we'll go to.
But it'll possible be Switzerland, Italy or France
I'm so excited Lately I've felt wanderlust!
I've felt depressed knowing that everyone else around me would travel to amazing destination & I'd probably have to stay at home...
But not any longer! My dreams will come true! No matter where we'll travel to!
I just wanna enjoy some sun & autumn weather!
I'll make sure to keep you updated about our plans

We go in cycles when it comes to fitness. Sometimes you’re super motivated, determined and consistent. Then there’s a time when we backtrack slightly. Mine recently was due to a mixture of injury / work / holiday. I hadn’t been to the gym in two weeks although I was on holiday for a week and did a lot of swimming and played lots of golf. After my first session back in the gym I felt stronger than before I left.

I always tell my clients not to worry too much about working out if they go on holiday. I say to them if you want to and it will make you feel better then do, but take long walks, go for a run or do some HIIT training just to get that good endorphin rush. They are usually worried about returning to their training and having taken 10 steps backwards. I always say that first session back is always a hard one, you’ll probably suffer from muscle soreness a bit more than usual and mentally it can be quite tough. That’s why I always take the first couple of sessions back with my clients at a slightly gentler pace to ease them back in.

When you’ve been pushing your limits in the gym 4/5 + a week, taking time off actually gives you a chance to let your muscles repair. Your muscles get put their paces during a Strength program and they’re constantly being ripped to get stronger. When you take day a week off those muscles get the chance to repair fully which is why you can feel stronger after a good rest. You also get the chance to sleep more and relax more mentally. During exercise your cortisol levels (the stress hormone) are enhanced so having a property break can level them out. It’s a good way to reset mind and body taking a break. Do things that you enjoy to take place of that hour or so you be otherwise working out.

Taking a break is never a bad thing, it’s a lot harder if you’re a beginning into your workout routine which is why you need to keep that mental strength. If you a regular exerciser taking a week off won’t harm you and it won’t be too hard to get back into routine.

-this morning i felt extremely fat for eating so many fear foods and i don’t have a picture but yesterday i binge ate on bread and i had one muffin, this led me to purge but it didn’t help like it usually would as i felt guilty for not purging all week for eating so many fear foods. today I’m also going out with my friends to blue water which is going to be really horrible as i will see all the models with their perfect everything and i just don’t want to get out of bed and even show my self. suprsingly, i did eat breakfast which was muesli and this led me to feeling even more fat :(

Когда вы бьёте по всем фронтам: вот у меня вчера на почве фиг знает чего замкнуло глаз. Это такая узнаваемая боль, похожая на зубную, только в глазу.  Она же - единственное, что может вызвать у меня страх (потому что угрожает уколами в глаз), но почти сразу на автомате появляется чёткий план действий.  1.  Гимнастика для глаз и общее улучшение кровообращения через лёгкую физическую нагрузку. 
2.  Противовоспалительные капли (любые, аналогичные по составу уколам - дексаметозон, эмоксипин). 3.  Отлаживаемо режима сон/бодрствование. 
4.  Переход на растительную диету. 
Сегодня глаз ещё немного давит, но уже еле заметно - глядишь, к понедельнику справлюсь и можно будет обойтись без уколов.  Вопросы?

Today will be the final day of my summer holiday but tomorrow will be the first day of a new chapter as I will begin my final 3 years of Medschool. Which means I'm officially halfway there to becoming a doctor!

The next couple of days I'll take my time getting adjusted to my new environment and finding a routine with both studying and everyday things. (Ever noticed how everything takes much longer when you've just moved as you need to figure out where you've put everything? ) But first it's time to do a final foodshop and pack before I'll be leaving in the evening (the gym will also be out on hold for the next couple of days )

These statistics make me so sad. One of the biggest motivations for me to recover was to break the cycle. I wanted to ensure my children never saw my disordered behaviours and thought they were normal or healthy. I want to teach my children to be happy, confident and healthy in a body of any shape or size. These statistics highlight to me that we still have a way to go on body image awareness and education. Man is what he believes. Practicing sex addicts act out of a perverted set of beliefs. This system convinces us we are worthless and shameful, and therefore our actions don’t matter. In this way we were able to avoid taking responsibility for what we did and we were not there within our own sexuality. Sooner or later we found that our fantasies and acts didn’t satisfy us. They were empty, ritual gestures that had no real human connection. We treated others as objects to gratify our own addictive desires so that nothing had any meaning beyond our self-serving fantasies. In order to change our actions, we must change our beliefs. This is difficult to accomplish alone - we need to bounce our ideas off others. In a group where we are accepted and feel at home, we can try out new beliefs and develop new ways of relating to ourselves and the world. We learn to change our values and our behaviour, so that our addiction can be shed like an old skin.

Step one. We run about attempting to control others and situations in an effort to avoid our own unmanageable lives. The need to try to control the people and things around us can be so strong. We may have this idea in our minds about how things „should” be. If only life were a certain way, we could feel good about ourselves. So we feel compelled to make the „should” a reality. We push and prod and manipulate to try to get others to do what we want, completely missing the fact that we have to clean our house first. In the meantime the harder we push the crazier we feel because others never quite measure up to our ideals. Step one tells us that control over others is a myth. Even though some things may change as a result of our efforts, we leave a lot of wreckage in our wake.

This day was another magical day in our NICU milestones - my stepson finally got to meet his little sister. Was was only 6 at the time and with the uncertainty whether she was going to pull through now was the right time. ⠀
⠀
His Dad tried his hardest to explain the machines and tubes etc beforehand but I don’t really think you can prepare anyone let alone a 6 year old. He bought his teddy Spotty from home to look after her while she stayed in hospital. He coped really well and the nurses again when amazing. ⠀
⠀
They helped to answer all the questions he had, showed him what all the machines were doing and once he got bored they took him off to play so Dad could spend some time with her before they both went home.⠀
⠀
The most precious thing was they wrote him a letter (pretending to be from his sister) thanking him for spotty and being the best big brother ever. We’ve still got this in her special box!⠀
⠀
Things were looking so good! Meds were going in, chest drain was working, SATS were stable. It was this evening that everything started going down hill again.⠀
