Well, I’ve finally run my first event half marathon! #indiansummerhalfmarathon in Richland was gorgeous! I finished in 2hrs 21min and 41 sec.  I’m seriously only a few months into really doing this running thing and today... today is the day I know that this is something I could keep doing for a very long time. Not only was it beautiful and fun it was also challenging emotionally and physically. I set goals and met them. Running is a community....And I’m so proud to be a part of that community! Huge shout out to my bestie @danielle_rene79 for meeting me after her 18 miles run and even running a bit with me til I did my final push... you’re seriously my inspiration. Plus, a sticker for the 13.1 miles and bringing me the snickers I’m dying to have as an after race reward. And a huge shout out to my husband who came down quick to cheer me on(no pic of him because he had to jet for work) and take some pics. And miss Tomeka for cheering on the side lines as well! I’ve been slacking on the +2 with my training plan 
I’m supposed to have 3 key runs ‍️ each week PLUS 2 days of non-weight bearing cross training  ‍️ I’ve been doing strength ️‍️ and 🧘‍️ but haven’t been on the bike since my awful showing at the MOJO triathlon. And I have the Morgan’s Little Miami Half Triathlon in just 3 weeks. Felt great to loose out those hip flexors! Are you cross training with your marathon training?

When you have zero time because of a doc appt for your son.... you make things work. Walked my son to school(1 mile) for a warm up then Ran home the long way (3 miles) to get your last run in before your half marathon! Eek! It’s hard with a stroller but I got it done in under 35 min. First double digit run in years!!!! Forgot to get my post run picture. This run kicked the crap out of me. I decided yesterday that I am going to run a 5k race this weekend just to see where I'm at. So I moved my komg run to today and will use the 5k in place of my tempo run.  The plan for this run was to keep the first 5 under 8:10 and the last 5 under 8:00. My focus on the last 5 miles was on my form. Trying to maintain good form after already fatiguing my legs. I was also telling myself no weakness in those last few miles.  I find that's what gets me before anything else is the mind saying to slow down. Slowing down in and of itself is not weakness. Sometimes you have to. But when I know it's only my mind and not my body, I try to remind myself to push through.

Perfect overcast morning to get my intervals in. Today's RX was 4x1000m in 4:14.  I hit all of those times pretty easily. I think a new 5k test run is in order to see where my fitness is at currently.

My view for the rest of the day. Missed my long run yesterday so I had to get up at 0330 this morning to get it in. 9 mile at 8:05/mi (4 seconds off the target per mile pace). It was a crazy run.  It was so dark on that in could barely see. Heard a goose honking very loudly and angrily but couldn't see it.  As the sound got close I finally saw it fly overhead. Then somewhere between 3.5 and 4 miles I had to make an emergency stop at a porta john. Then around mile 6 I hear something running in the grass ahead of me. I look off to the side of the road and see it but can't make it out. As I got closer I thought it might be a loose dog and my heart rate spiked for sure. I do not like seeing dogs on a run.  I've been chased one too many times. Turns out it was two deer.  One stood staring at me as I got closer and snorted at me before running off. It was certainly and interesting run this morning.

Didnt get a picture out on the trail so today's picture is post run and post shower with my post workout drink.  CHOCOLATE MILK!!! I love chocolate milk!!! Great recovery drink. Great tasting. 
Today's run was a tempo split up in 2mi - 1mi - 2mi with 1 mile easy between each rep. Ths middle lonely tempo mile was the worst rep. After the easy recovery mile, my legs just didnt want to get going again. But then he rest after that went smooth.  Legs are almost always fatigued but feel good as well.

This hair  and humidity! Even though this is the low long run mileage in my training plan, the sweat/movement still had time to build a nest in my hair. A shower and heavy conditioner are the first order of business!

I have a lot of hair and a braiding it will only prevent some of the tangle, and a bun feels too heavy and is difficult to keep there. I succumb to this weekly wreck I call hair, all in the name of running.

Recently read Dottir by Katrina Davidsdottir, and I highlighted a quote “No one knows how hard you’re working but you. Don’t cheat yourself.” Maybe with Social Media and sharing more people do know what activities I do, but sharing the struggles are important too. I’m so glad as athletic friends and peers we can see both the highs and lows behind the numbers—My high was completing the interval and tempo runs this week at pace, the low was wanting to stop and make excuses. Working on my mental game 🤓and thinking my physical gains will follow!

Heres a shot of my september training plan with my after run protein. love this protein powder. Its performix fruity cereal flavor and it is delicious.  I'm feeling very run down today so I took it easy this morning. I was supposed to do 4 miles at 7:46 pace. I couldn't bring myself to push to that pace. My legs and body in general are just sore. So I decided to save it for fridays long run. 8 miles at 8:01 pace.

The Run Less Run Faster plan calls for not running on back to back days. So I was curious how this would go since I did last weeks long run yesterday and this weeks interval Session today. My legs feel less than stellar but I got the workout in and managed to come in under the goal times for the repeats. 
Today's workout was 2x1mi (6:59 goal) & 1x0.5mi (3:21 goal). Actual times are on the first pic. Went to wyatt's school to run on the track. I know alot of people do not like track days. For some reason I just happen to love them.  What are your thoughts on track workouts/intervals?

The Run Less Run Faster plan calls for not running on back to back days. So I was curious how this would go since I did last weeks long run yesterday and this weeks interval Session today. My legs feel less than stellar but I got the workout in and m

That was easy! ‍️ I'm so thankful that my training plan includes a week of higher mid-week mileage and speed and a tempo paced shorter, long run. .

Marathon pace tempo runs and fast AF speed work on the books for the next couple of weeks plus two more long distance runs (32 and 35km) to look forward. This will be my 3rd marathon using the Run Less, Run Faster training plan because I do so much cross training, I don't want to be super fatigued on my runs. .

Total August mileage 208kms! Not a lot for most marathon training plans but I've been very successful with this concept of running less but focused runs and wonder if any others have used/use this plan?

Happy September everyone! Sad to say goodbye to August but not giving in to the downers that say summer is over because we have beautiful autumn weather here in TO and I plan to embrace it!

What's up?!? It appears this shirt looks like a box when I hold my arms out. (Happy everyone? My hometown finds this shirt offensive, I see now why it was 3 bucks on the clearance rack. ) This month was full of obstacles and overcoming them. I ran 63 miles with @storehouse_farms and all of them started before 6 am. So...the part that blows my mind here is the morning part. Sure my eyes are so puffy they look like they might swell shut, I find myself laying in bed at 5 pm most evenings wondering how to get through the rest of the night, and I actually put my head on the desk while homeschooling...but I think it's worth it...maybe. I have never been a morning person. I also lost 5 pounds this month, which is incredible bc there was a 7 day trip in the middle of it. Since July, 8 I have lost 13 pounds. (8 of which were regain...but an accomplishment nonetheless). Also, still doing BBG stronger, but modifying it around running. I'm on week 5. Now I have to keep going forward. I can't get in my head! 1,5km cool down

Had the tempo run on target  and happy with it until hit the segment called Leg Killer! Which was the last Km and it took everything out of me! 🤮 🤮 🤮

11 days until Erie Marathon. My run club has hill  repeats tonight. I’m passing & instead did speed repeats on the bike path late morning. Erie is as flat as a pancake 🥞plus with a 7am start I’ll still be running at 10:30am. I forgot how beautiful & peaceful bike paths can be!

Even saw some children from my school whom were curious about coming on the track, so I invited them on and ran a lap with them during cool down!

I can feel it. The speed in me getting easier. I’m still slow but I’m moving faster than I was before! This one felt good. I was able to push myself a bit faster and finish faster. Next week will be the real challenge. 15 miles prescribed! I’m very excited about it but won’t be upset if I only can go 13! Week 14 RLRF. Intervals (6x800) after clinic. Done in time to get kid before after care closes. Did not die. Down a few gallons a sweat. I consider that a win. Currently taking suggestions for how i can make smart choices at Chinese buffet- it was my daughter’s pick tonight because i forgot to meal prep. Only gave it one attempt as got Tough Viking next week and didn’t want to get injured!

What animal follows you everywhere? Your calves! So glad I wore my compression socks on today’s long run. After hill repeats on Wednesday and 20 miles today my calves were screaming at me. 5th 20 miler done  in my Run Less, Run Faster plan. Now time to taper.

Today I felt slow... I was slow... but, I did the 10 miles as prescribed. I took a bit of a different route as I didn’t want the same scenery. Idk if it hindered me because I didn’t know where I was going? But I felt a bit lost... next week I’ll have a better map in my head of my route. 🤗🤗🤗. None the less...   I’ve been awake since midnight. I was hoping to get some sleep before my long run today, but gave up around 4:30 AM. Started getting ready and headed out while it was still dark. Prayed a simple prayer the run would go well.
 
Wasn’t sure how my legs would do with little rest. Not just last night either. Haven’t had much rest this week. Took it easy throughout. Slow but comfortable run. Temps in the 60s and cloudy for most of it. My pace slowed a lot the final two miles with hills in my neighborhood. Still, good to check off another long run.
 
September 22 and the Heartland Marathon draw near.

This was tough.  1 mile w/u then 5x1km with 400m RI and 1 mile c/d.  Woof.  This hurt with just about every step, due to my ribs.  I’m hoping what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger!  Now to ice my rib cage and put my feet up! #runner #marathontraining #runlessrunfaster

 gym time 6 days/week has me getting bored and antsy, but I’m running a little bit on the treadmill. Once the discomfort in my leg fades I’ll be back at my rail trail, sweating my cheeks off and cursing the Pennsylvania gnats and humidity
